Senior Living
This senior living residence provides a place to live for older adults in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia. The Nicola Lodge residence is located in the Birchland Manor neighbourhood at 2240 Hawkins Street. The setting is designed around shared indoor and outdoor areas where residents can spend time reading, relaxing and socializing during the day. The residence is intended for seniors who want a home with shared facilities on site. Inside, a library offers a quiet room for reading books. Nearby, a salt-water fish tank provides a focal point for relaxing and watching fish. These indoor spaces give residents options for calm activities away from their own rooms, whether they want to read alone or sit with others in a shared area. The fish tank is salt water, which distinguishes it from a freshwater tank. Sitting beside it is described as a way to relax, separate from reading. Outdoors, courtyards provide open air space for lounging. An in-house parlour serves frozen treats that can be enjoyed while sitting outside. Together, the library, fish tank, courtyards and parlour create a range of places for reading, relaxing, lounging and enjoying a treat within the residence grounds. The courtyards are outdoor spaces, so time there takes place outside the building. The parlour is in-house, so they are available within the residence rather than off site.
